Nordic school logo Nordic school office Nordic School first opened its doors in St. Petersburg in September 2000. In its early days, it was run from a small classroom with just a few members of staff and only two groups studying Finnish and Swedish. All this came about only with the help of the "Step by Step" grant, awarded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

For 6 years before setting up Nordic School, the founders had been developing study programmes in Russia and abroad for children and adults. Opening the school was a natural next step.

In the first academic year we started several new foreign language groups, set up linguistic training programmes in Finland for our students and got down to the serious business of preparing "Study + Vacation" programmes for schoolchildren, through which we set up contact with dozens of Finnish colleges.

The numbers of students on our courses grew year on year, and the number of children and young adults travelling abroad on our study programmes went up and up. In 2001 we sent our first group to study in Sweden.

In 2002 we began providing a new type of educational programme, organising seminars in Finland for specialists in various professional fields and visits to trade fairs. Study + Vacation programmes for schoolchildren

In the same year we set up our first business contacts with Norway.

In 2003 we opened a branch in Moscow. This is now located in an office in the town centre, in the "Literary Gazette" building, with classrooms for over one hundred Scandinavian languages students and sixteen teachers.

In 2004 we began working in another new area - assisting students with enrolment in educational establishments in Finland and Sweden to study for first and second degrees.

In 2005 we launched another useful and popular project - an online Scandinavian bookshop - with contacts in a range of publishing houses in Russia and Scandinavia.

We introduced a programme to prepare students for the State Finnish Language Examination and organised trips to sit the exam.

Good business relations were established with Spanish educational establishments, and in 2006 we began a new international programme entitled "From Northern to Southern Europe".

In 2006 we embarked on yet another business venture to bring tourists from Finland to St. Petersburg and Moscow, and renting out cottages in Finnish holiday areas to Russian tourists.

Nordic School now boasts a sound educational and methodological background, its own library, experienced teachers and excellent relations with educational centres in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Spain. We run dozens of language study groups, and around 100 students travel to Finland each year on language training programmes.

Approximately 1,000 schoolchildren and students spend their vacations with us annually, with a large proportion of them returning year after year.

We participate in all educational fairs and pay meticulous attention to the quality of our work and the services we provide.
